ROLE BREAKDOWNS
Senator Robert Chiltern
30s–40s
Handsome, successful, and impeccably polished. A rising star in Texas politics, admired for his integrity—while hiding a secret from his early career. Charismatic and confident on the surface, deeply conflicted beneath.
Gertrude Chiltern (Precast)
Robert’s wife. A River Oaks society leader, deeply moral and idealistic. Active in Houston’s charity gala circuit and holds her husband to the highest ethical standards.
Mabel Chiltern
20s–30s
Robert’s younger sister. A witty Houston debutante—flirty, stylish, sharp-tongued, and delightfully irreverent. Socially savvy and emotionally perceptive beneath the banter.
Arthur Goring
30s–40s
A Dallas oil heir and charming playboy. Dashing, idly brilliant, and allergic to responsibility. Lives for parties, bourbon, and banter—but far sharper than he lets on.
Colonel Caversham
50s–70s
Arthur’s father. A booming oil baron and rancher. Blunt, traditional, and perpetually disappointed in his son’s frivolity. Larger-than-life presence.
Mrs. Margaret Markby
30s–60s
A genial, gossipy Houston hostess. Knows everyone and everything on the gala circuit. Always cheerful, always talking, and always listening.
Olivia Basildon
30s–60s
A wealthy Houston socialite perpetually complaining about boredom, husbands, and social obligations. Sharp, dry, and deeply amused by her own dissatisfaction.
Margaret Marchmont
30s–60s
Olivia’s equally wealthy counterpart in complaint. Together with Olivia, provides a satirical lens on Houston’s upper crust and social rituals.
Mrs. Laura Cheveley
30s–40s
A glamorous and dangerous socialite newly returned from overseas. Brilliant, scheming, and holding Robert’s past in her hands. Dresses to be remembered. Commands the room.
Vicente de Nanjarro *
20s–50s
A visiting Mexican oil magnate. Charming, gallant, and an outsider whose presence highlights Texas’s ties to international oil money and power.
Mason *
20s–50s
Senator Chiltern’s personal aide. Discreet, efficient, and ever-present. Manages schedules, guests, and political logistics. A quiet observer of power and social maneuvering.
Phipps *
20s–50s
Arthur Goring’s personal secretary. Impeccably composed, efficient, and unnervingly unflappable. Appears almost machine-like, yet is the discreet backbone of Arthur’s carefully curated life.
