The Premiere of

Eye of Storm: Tales from Hurricane Ike
by Fernando Dovalina

Directed by Steve Carpentier

On the fifth anniversary of Hurrican Ike's landfall along the Texas Gulf Coast, nine short comedic and drmaati plays and monologues recall that a natural disaster can bend - but not break - the human spirit.

In "Into the Eye of a Storm," six powerful hurricanes argue among themselves as they try to determine which one was most powerful in U.S. presidential politics.  A beautiful dog named Maggie tells her tale of survival.  A bitter woman tries to abscond with the last surviving bag of ice left in Houston.  A Galveston bartender tries to keep peace among battling customers.  A teen-aged slacker recalls a hurrican party that went bad.  The wife of a cross-dressing man worries that the storm may kill them and that her husband's secret may not be secret for long.  A Houston Chronicle reporter discovers that there's more to people - and trees - than first meets the eye.  The owners of a Mexican restaurant destroyed by Ike learn that their precious collateral is not recognized by banks.
